Patricia Rose (DeGroot) Montague who married William (Bill) Sanford Montague

The chapel was completed just 2 months before their wedding. Pats father was Dr. A.T. DeGroot, former TCU Dean of the Graduate School, at the time of the wedding he was Distinguished Professor of Church History @ Brite.  He walked Pat down the aisle & presented her to Bill then Dr. DeGroot circled around & officiated the service.  Organist was Sue Smith, wife of TCU Professor Emmet Smith, who also instructed Pat in organ studies.  Ceremony was attended by about 100 people.  One of Williams groomsmen was Dr. Eugene Brice, former minister at University Christian Church where both Bill & Pat are members.  Reception followed in the cloisters between Brite & the Chapel.  Bill often told the story that during the service he became a bit emotional.  Dr. DeGroot, noticing that, quietly handed Bill a handkerchief, for which he was grateful for both the thoughtfulness & discretion.  Pat vividly remembers that the wedding & the reception were both blissfully cool –perhaps one of the first air-conditioned weddings on campus.
